String of…
Pearls, Dolphins, Banana, Buttons, Teardrops
Toxicity:
These plants are toxic to pets
Temperature:
These succulents are very cold hardy, and can survive low temperatures.
They should be kept at around 60-80°F, but will do fine if temperatures drop to 30-40°F for short periods.
Light Requirements:
These succulents enjoy full sun but can tolerate partial sun as well.
Watering Requirements:
They need a well draining succulent/cactus soil, and should be watered very carefully.
In most conditions once every two weeks should be sufficient, but this may fluctuate depending on environment.
Soil should dry out between waterings.
Fertilizing:
These plants don’t require fertilization, however, doing so with a half diluted fertilizer during the growing season can aid in their growth.
Calethia
Makoyana, Beauty Star, Rattlesnake
Toxicity:
Non toxic to pets
Temperature:
Keep in environments between 60-85°F
Light Requirements:
Partial sun/indirect light to full shade
Watering Requirements:
Moist but well draining soil
Do not keep in soggy conditions
Fertilizing:
Feed once a month in growing months
Light Requirements:
Bright indirect or filtered light
Watering Requirements:
Allow the top few inches to dry between waterings
Fertilizing:
Fertilize during growing months (spring-summer), once every 1-2 months
Light Requirements:
Bright filtered sunlight
Watering Requirements:
Should be planted in well draining cacti soil.
This is a drought tolerant plant, however, it will do best when watered more frequently, with the soil drying out between waterings.
Fertilizing:
Fertilize once a month using succulent fertilizer during growing season (spring-summer), but should be left alone during winter months.
Bird of Pardise
Toxicity:
Mildly toxic to pets
Temperature:
Should be kept in areas between 55-70°F (or warmer)
Light Requirements:
Can grow in direct sun or low light conditions.
It prefers more light and will grow much faster.
Watering Requirements:
Keep soil moist but not soggy
Bird of Paradise should never sit in water.
Fertilizing:
Slow release fertilizer works well for these; they are heavy eaters and should be fed every three months.
Venus Flytraps
Toxicity:
Non toxic to humans and pets
Temperature:
These are pretty hardy plants and can survive from 40-95°F
Light Requirements:
These will do best in bright, direct sunlight.
Watering Requirements:
Keep sitting in diluted water at all times.
These enjoy being in soggy conditions, but chemicals/minerals in non-diluted water will harm them.
Fertilizing:
If your flytrap isn’t getting live flies, they may require getting fed dead flies or other high nitrogen foods such as mealworms.
Max sea fertilizer can also be applied to the traps and leaves, but not poured through the soil.
Manettia Luteorubra
Goldfish Candy Corn
Toxicity:
Generally non toxic to humans and pets
Temperature:
Keep out of extreme conditions (high heat/freezing), these prefer to be kept around 65-85°F.
Light Requirements:
These prefer full to partial sun, or bright filtered light
Watering Requirements:
Water in well draining soil, and allow the top 2 inches to dry before watering again.
Cut back on watering again in winter when the plant is not growing as much.
Fertilizing:
Give 10-30-10 liquid fertilizer in spring-summer, every two weeks when the plant is blooming.
Light Requirements:
Place in medium to bright indirect light.
Watering Requirements:
Water only when the soil is completely and thoroughly dry.
Fertilizing:
Use liquid fertilizer, diluted to half strength, once a month spring-summer.
